Bolivian state power corporation Empresa Nacional de Electricidad SA (ENDE) said Thursday that it is ready to connect one 39.6-MW wind farm and start working on another wind project of 24 MW.

It said that a ministerial technical inspection confirmed that construction of the San Julian wind farm in the Santa Cruz department had been finalised. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the subsequent strict quarantine and border closures froze civil works on the 11-turbine project for four months.

However, according to ENDE, work on San Julian suffered even more due to poor management on the part of the former interim government, which kept changing the project leadership, caused delays in payments and permitting and derailed the timetable as a result.

With administrative troubles behind, ENDE expects to have San Julian up and running soon and finalise the assembly of the Warnes and El Dorado wind farms, which will generate 108 MW combined.

In a separate press release on Thursday, ENDE announced that it is preparing to launch the 24-MW La Ventolera wind project.

This wind farm would have eight turbines installed at a site in the Tarija department. The project is currently in the tendering phase.

Elsewhere on ENDE’s website, it says that French development agency AFD is the financier of La Ventolera.
