Bosnia's Serb Republic, Serbia to jointly build 2 HPPs with combined installled capacity of 95 MW

Bosnia's Serb Republic and Serbia will jointly build two hydropower plants, Foca and Paunci, on the river Drina, with a combined installed capacity of 95 MW, the energy ministry of the Serb Republic said.

The two HPPs will be worth a combined 200 million euro ($231.2 million), the ministry said in a statement on Thursday, following a meeting between the energy minister of the Serb Republic, Petar Djokic, and his Serbian peer, Aleksandar Antic.

Bosnian state-controlled power utility Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske (ERS) and its Serbian counterpart Elektroprivreda Srbije will be in charge of developing these projects.

"We agreed that at the next joint session of the governments of the Serb Republic and Serbia, which will be held on August 29 in Trebinje, decisions will be made following which the construction of the joint facilities in the upper stream of the Drina river will start," Djokic is quoted saying.

On August 29, the two sides are expected to sign a deal towards the realisation of these HPP projects.

The Serb Republic is one of two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other is the Federation.
