Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTBosnia's Serb Republic and Serbia will launch in September activities towards the joint construction of two hydropower plants (HPPs) on the river Drina with a combined installed capacity of 90 MW, the government of the Serb Republic said.
Preparatory works towards the project's implementation will intensify in 2019, the Serb Republic's government said in a statement on Wednesday following a joint government session with their Serbian counterparts.
The energy ministries of Bosnia's entity and Serbia also inked on Thursday a memorandum of cooperation in energy which envisages the construction of the HPPs, Serbia's energy ministry said in a separate press release.
The construction of HPPs Foca and Paunci, worth a combined 200 million euro ($233.6 million), is the first joint project between the Serb Republic and Serbia in the sector of energy.
Bosnian state-controlled power utility Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske (ERS) and its Serbian counterpart Elektroprivreda Srbije will be in charge of development.
The Serb Republic is one of two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the other is the Federation.
