Brazil approves 46 MW wind farms as priority projects

Sep 23, 2014 - Brazil's Mines and Energy Ministry has cleared local 30-MW Ventos de Santo Onofre I and 16-MW Verace 26 wind power plants as priority projects for the country.

By granting the priority status to these facilities, the ministry gives the plants' operators the right to issue tax-exempt infrastructure bonds.

EOL Ventos de Santo Onofre is owned by US investment fund Contour Global, local fund FIP Salus and federal utility Chesf which together got the concession at the government's energy auction held in August 2013. The farm is located in the municipality of Simoes, in the northeastern state of Piaui.

As for the Verace 26 plant, it is located in Santa Vitoria do Palmar municipality, in southern state of Rio Grande do Sul and is controlled by federal power firm Eletrosul. The facility's concession was awarded at the government's power auction in November 2013.
