Brazilian power sector regulator Aneel announced on Thursday renewables were responsible for all the 1,505.15 MW of power generation capacity added across the country in April 2024.

Solar farms represent the largest portion, accounting for 733.74 MW of the capacity connected to the grid last month, followed by wind with 559.90 MW. Biomass-fired and hydropower plants contributed 208.51 MW and 3 MW, respectively.

Overall, roughly 4.1 GW of power-generating capacity has been added to the national grid in the first four months of the year.

At the beginning of May, the country had 202,091.5 MW of installed power generation capacity. As much as 84.48% of the total is produced from renewable energy, the agency noted.
