World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTMar 28, 2014 - Brazilian government will hold an auction exclusively for PV solar power projects in 2014, the energy planning and development secretary at the country's mines and energy ministry, Altino Ventura, said yesterday.
Altino, however, failed to announce the exact date of the auction.
The solar power projects made their debut at the energy auctions held by the government in 2013, but they were unable to compete with the production costs of other sources. According to the energy research company EPE, the price of solar power was set at BRL 160 (USD 71/EUR 51) per MWh of solar power, far higher than the cost of production from other sources, such as wind and hydro.
(BRL 1.0 = USD 0.443/EUR 0.322)
