Brazil hits 30 GW of distributed generation capacity Brazil's Ministry of Defence pilot solar rooftop system

Brazil has reached a significant milestone in the renewable energy sector by achieving 30 GW of distributed generation (DG) capacity.

In 2023, cumulative investments in the domestic DG segment surpassed BRL 100 billion (USD 18.4bn/EUR 17.1bn). The forecast for 2024 is BRL 140 billion, reflecting an increase of more than 35%, according to the Brazilian Association for Distributed Generation (ABGD).

Led by solar power, DG systems now supply over 3.8 million consumer units across more than 5,500 municipalities.

Currently, the state of Sao Paulo leads with a capacity exceeding 4 GW, followed by Minas Gerais. Additionally, eight other Brazilian states have surpassed 1 GW in DG capacity.
