World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTNov 21, 2012 - A total 3,525 MW of renewable energy capacity have entered in operation in Brazil since the beginning of the second phase of the government's Growth Acceleration Programme PAC, data of the federal government showed on Monday.
This equals 83% of the total 4,244 MW new capacity installed since the start of 2011, when PAC 2 was launched.
The number of newly installed projects is 52, including 23 thermoelectric power plants (TPPs), of combined 1,711 MW, the Santo Antonio hydroelectric power plant (HPP), which has six turbines totalling 417 MW, and 19 wind farms, of 475 MW.
Other 28,022 MW are seen to enter in operation after the completion of the works already underway under PAC 2.
The 11 HPPs at present under construction are expected to add 18,702 MW to the power grid, while the 87 wind farms being built are seen to generate 2,291 MW.
