Brazil added 743.95 MW of wind and solar power capacity in June, the nation's power sector regulator, Aneel, said on Monday.

More specifically, the new solar farms with a combined capacity of 451.15 MW of solar and wind parks of 292.8 MW went online in June across the country, the latest figures show.

Overall, the country added 889.51 MW in June. In addition to solar and wind energy, the remaining new capacity comes from thermal plants.

During the first six months of the year, Brazil's electricity system grew by 5,670.32 MW of new capacity across different technologies.

At the beginning of July, Brazil had a total of 203,895.63 MW of installed power generation capacity in the country. At present, the largest renewable sources that make up the Brazilian electricity mix are hydro (53.88%), wind (15.22%) and biomass (8.31%).

Aneel noted it forecasts that the country's electricity generation will grow by 10.1 GW in 2024.
