As wind projects in the country multiply Brazil should climb up to the 7th position in terms of wind power generation in the 2015 World Energy and Socioeconomic Ranking.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Currently, the country occupies the 10th position with 12.2 TWh of wind produced in 2014.

The World Energy and Socioeconomic Ranking contains data for the years of 2012, 2013 and 2014, and it is published annually by the country Secretary of Planning and Energy Development.

In 2014, Brazil made it to the 3rd place in terms of wind power growth, with 5.6 TWh of expansion, second only to China with 17.2 TWh and the US with 14.1 TWh. Brazil held the fourth place in 2013 with 6.6% of renewables in its domestic mix, noted the government in its press release.

The ministry also believes Brazil will leap to 2nd place, overtaking Germany, in terms of biofuel production.

The report presents the ranking of the top 15 countries based on 38 indicators, such as the energy sector, CO2 emissions, population and economy.
