Brazil wind power association voices optimism about 2013 - report

Mar 8, 2013 - After 2012, a year considered disappointing in terms of wind power contracting in Brazil, 2013 promises to bring new opportunities for local sector players, the president of Brazil's wind power generation association Abeeolica, Elbia Melo, told energy news provider Canal Energia.

The government has already announced it will hold the traditional A-3 and A-5 power tenders, which include wind power ventures.

The auctions are seen to offer higher ceiling prices for wind energy as the current one, set at BRL 112 per MWh (USD 57.31/EUR 44.15), is considered too low, Melo reportedly commented.

Also, in the short term, the government is expected to tender only wind undertakings with already guaranteed transmission systems in order to prevent problems with their installation, Abeeolica's president pointed out. In 2012, at least 622 MW of installed wind power did not enter into operation due to delays in the construction of the ventures' transmission lines.
