Brazilian Bahia state's wind sector to get USD 3.301bn investments to 2014

Mar 5, 2013 - The wind power sector of Brazilian northeastern Bahia state will see investments worth as much as BRL 6.5 billion (USD 3.301bn/EUR 2.531bn) in the next two years.

The resources will translate into the installation of 500 wind power ventures, according to a presentation made yesterday by the state's governor, Jaques Wagner.

At the event, the governor pointed out the recently announced EUR-1-billion (USD 1.304bn) deal under which Alstom Renewable Power, a unit of French heavy engineering group Alstom (EPA:ALO), will supply 440 wind turbines with 1,200 MW combined capacity to Brazilian developer Renova Energia (SAO:RNEW11).

The equipment is earmarked for the Caetite, Guanambi and Igapora wind farms, to be installed in the southwestern region of the state.

The turbines will be manufactured at Alstom's wind equipment factory in the municipality of Camacari, as well in Bahia. They will start to be delivered as of 2015, over the period of three to four years.

The French player will double the production capacity of the unit in order to be able to meet the order.
