Brazil’s BNDES grants USD 87m to new biomass-fired power project
Nov 11, 2024 14:37 CESTDec 3, 2013 - Brazilian fuel distributors sold 48.9 million litres (10.7m gallons) of diesel B, also known as B5, a 5% biodiesel blend with conventional diesel, in the period January to October 2013, up 5.5% year-on-year, data of the country's vegetable oil industry association (Abiove) showed.
A total 8.8 billion litres of conventional diesel were imported to meet the consumption, equal to 18% of the total Brazilian diesel consumption. This percentage could be reduced with the future biofuel blend's lift to 7%, Abiove commented.
In October 2013 alone, a total of 942 million litres of diesel were imported.
Between January and September, Brazilian biodiesel production reached record high 2.2 billion litres. In September 2013 alone, biodiesel production hit 252.7 million litres, up 0.2% year-on-year and 2.1% month-on-month. The Centre-West remained Brazil's main biodiesel producing region, with 42% share of the total, followed by the South and Northeast with shares of 37% and 10%, respectively.
The average price of biodiesel stood at BRL 1.86 (USD 0.8/EUR 0.6) per litre in October, down 31% year-on-year and stable on a monthly comparison base.
