Brazilian telecommunication company Vivo has inaugurated a distributed generation (DG) solar plant in Rio Grande do Norte state capable of generating 4,905 MWh per year.

The new facility can supply 320 units, including stores, offices, antennas and transmission equipment, the subsidiary of Spain's Telefonica SA (BME:TEF) said on Thursday.

Vivo partnered up with Brazilian renewable energy and refrigeration company Grupo Gera to build the solar park. They have also carried out improvement works in the surrounding electrical network.

As part of Vivo's DG renewables plan, the firm plans to add a total of 85 plants in the country. Currently, 22 sites are in operation, generating clean power from solar, hydro and biogas sources.

Once all the plants are up and running, Vivo estimates it will produce around 711,000 MWh per year of clean energy, enough to meet the consumption of 30,000 of its facilities, it noted.
