Brazilian electrical equipment manufacturer WEG SA (BVMF:WEGE3) has announced a plan to enter the wind turbine manufacturing market in the United States.

The company said in its notice to the market earlier this week that it will manufacture its 7.X MW wind turbine platform in its high-voltage motors and generators factory in Minneapolis. WEG did not disclose the initial investments, stating they are not relevant and are already considered in the capital budget.

With its modular capability and operational flexibility, the Minneapolis factory can expand and adapt to the company's needs. WEG expects to commence equipment shipment in 2026.

The Brazilian company said that it will also start its commercial activities by aiming to close sales contracts and develop the local supply chain. This new business endeavour will not hinder WEG's strategy and continued development of the wind generation business in Brazil and India.
