ArcelorMittal buys majority stake in Brazilian solar holding
Sep 19, 2024 9:29 CESTBrazilian energy firm Comerc Energia and KWP Energia have teamed up to sell electricity generated by a new 112-MWp floating solar park to low-voltage consumers in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo.
Under a joint venture agreement, the two companies have partnered with the recently privatised Metropolitan Water and Energy Company – EMAE. The latter holds the concession for the Billings Dam where the solar power system will be deployed.
With the potential to power around 64,000 homes, the floating solar park will generate electricity for companies, homes and small and medium-sized industries in the region.
Comerc noted that the JV already has an 18-year supply agreement with Santander Brasil, a unit of Spanish lender Banco Santander, and will partly meet the electricity demand of 160 Santander shops in Sao Paulo city and the metropolitan region.
