World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTDistributed generation from solar systems in Brazil has the potential to grow 300% this year, according to Portal Solar, a business and solar industry information hub in the country.
Portal Solar made the statement based on the 9,000 requests for funding for distributed generation systems (DG) it received in just five months, between August and December 2015.
About 65% of the systems sold so far range from 2 kWp to 5 kWp in capacity. Then, with 20% market share, come the 5 kWp to 15 kWp ones and finally, the smaller ones of up to 2 kWp.
According to the Portal Solar, Brazil should have 500 more new players in its solar sector by this year's end.
Another factor for the institution's optimism is the Distributed Generation Development Programme for Energy, or ProGD, launched last December. The programme, among other things, encourages the connection of DG solar systems to the national electricity grid.
