Brazil's Elera to supply 120 MWp of solar power to water utility Solar PV plant in Brazil

Brazilian renewable energy company Elera Renovaveis ​announced last week it will provide renewable electricity generated by a portion of a 1.2-GWp solar complex to support the operation of Rio de Janeiro’s water and sewerage utility Aguas do Rio.

Under the contract with Aguas do Rio, Elera will lease two lots totalling 120 MWp of the Janauba photovoltaic (PV) complex to the utility.

Located in Minas Gerais, the Janauba solar park is the largest of its kind currently in operation in Brazil and is capable of producing enough energy to meet the demand of 1 million inhabitants.

The supply agreement will become effective from 2024 onwards, and the purchased volume is expected to cover 75% of Aguas do Rio's electricity consumption.
