Brazilian power distributor Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (BVMF:ELET6), or Eletrobras, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Maranhao state for the production of green hydrogen.

Specifically, the pact envisages mutual cooperation for the development of renewable energy, green hydrogen as well as its derivatives, the parties announced on Tuesday.

Ivan Monteiro, CEO of Eletrobras, said the company will provide the necessary green energy from its hydropower plants (HPPs) and transmission lines so that the parties can achieve their energy transition goals.

No further details on the project were disclosed.

This new MoU comes right after the one signed in March between Eletrobras and engineering consultant Paul Wurth do Brasil, which includes the construction and operation of a 10-MW plant for green hydrogen and oxygen production.
