Brazil’s Piaui state, through the state secretariat of environment and water resources, Semarh, has issued the operational licence (LO) for a wind power plant with an estimated power capacity of more than 300 MW.

The wind farm is one of the two parts of the Ventos de Sao Zacarias complex. This portion is located in Simoes municipality and is expected to start up in between 30 and 90 days.

Semarh said that the LO granted is valid until 2028 and can be renewed.

According to the project company's website, Ventos de Sao Zacarias has a second portion being built in Araripina, Pernambuco state. With its commercial operations planned for this year, the park should have a total generation capacity of 456 MW.

German wind turbine maker Nordex SE was tapped to supply 80 of its N163/5.7 WM wind turbine models for the facility, while the Brazilian unit of Spanish infrastructure builder and operator Elecnor SA is in charge of the construction of the wind farms, power lines and substations.
