Brazil's Piaui govt clears operations for 300-MW wind park
Sep 12, 2024 9:29 CESTMar 28, 2014 - Brazilian electricity sector regulator Aneel yesterday registered a request for the 18.9-MW wind power plant EOL Carrancudo and its adjacent transmission system.
According to a decree published in the State Gazette on Thursday, the plant is located in the Igapora municipality, northeastern Bahia state. It is owned by local firm Centrais Eolicas Itapua XI Ltda.
Under Aneel's rules the plant's owner will operate the facility as an independent power producer (IPP). Thus, Centrais Eolicas Itapua XI Ltda will be able to sell the plant's surplus energy and distribute energy to large consumers, paying concessionaires for the use of transmission lines. The main difference between independent producers and concessionaires in Brazil is that the first operate at their own risk, mainly based on the principles on free competition.
