The government of the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul will partner up with agrotech Begreen Bioenergia e Fertilizantes Sustentaveis SA in the development of green hydrogen projects.

The local government said on Tuesday it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) concerning the construction of three plants that will produce green hydrogen and ammonia.

The total investment planned for the factories is approximately BRL 150 million (USD 27.4m/EUR 24.6m). The facilities will be built in Passo Fundo, Tio Hugo and Condor and will have a production capacity of 8,000 tons of ammonia per year.

The first plants are set to start operating by 2027.

The state government said in a press statement that the deal was inked through the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Environment (Sema).

In addition to BeGreen, the state has signed MoUs with several other companies, including Ocean Winds, Equinor, Mitsubishi Power, CPFL Energia, and others.
