Israeli firm Brenmiller Energy (TLV:BNRG) has been authorised to receive a NIS-2.2-million (USD 612,000/EUR 560,000) government grant to install a 35-MWh thermal energy storage (TES) system at a plant owned and operated by local brewer Tempo Beverages Ltd.

The grant has been approved by the Israeli ministry of environmental protection and will be used for a project to replace the current fossil fuel-based steam boilers at a Tempo beverage plant with clean steam from Brenmiller’s patented bGen technology.

The 35-MWh TES project is designed with a maximum capacity of 14 tonnes of steam per hour.

Brenmiller explains that its bGen system is capable of using renewable energy to heat crushed rocks to very high temperatures and then storing this heat for later use in industrial and power generation processes.

Tempo produces beverages for brands such as Pepsi, Nestle, Pernod Richard and Heineken. The latter is also a shareholder in the Israeli company.
