A unit of Japanese vehicle parts manufacturer Bridgestone Corp (TYO:5108) has built a 9.95-MWp rooftop solar plant at its factory in Nong Khae district, central Thailand, to power tire production at the site.

Located atop Thai Bridgestone Co Ltd (TBSC), the new photovoltaic (PV) asset is the largest of its kind for the Bridgestone Group. The company estimates it can offset 97,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions over the next 15 years.

Thai company Impact Solar Group Co Ltd was in charge of the solar rooftop panels installation.

The Bridgestone Group began using rooftop solar systems in the country in 2021 when a 1-MWp plant was installed in Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing Co Ltd. According to a previous statement, an additional 4 MWp is planned for 2024.

“This aims to achieve the Group's medium-term environmental targets including a 50% reduction in absolute CO2 emissions and contribute to reducing more than five times our CO2 emissions across the lifecycle through products and services both by 2030,” noted Bridgestone China and Asia Pacific CEO, Yoshikazu Shida.
