British Globeleq moves ahead with 102 MW wind project in Honduras

(ADPnews) - Nov 8, 2010 - British power company Globeleq Generation Limited today said that its 102 MW Cerro de Hula (CdH) wind farm in Honduras reached financial close.

Non-recourse project financing for the wind facility was provided by the Export-Import Bank of the United States and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration.

Globeleq's majority owned subsidiary, wind projects developer and operator Energias Renovables de Mesoamerica SA developed the wind power plant through its locally owned entity, Energia Eolicas de Honduras SA. Constructor of the wind farm will be a consortium consisting of Gamesa Wind US LLC, a unit of Spanish wind turbines maker Gamesa (MCE:GAM), and Iberdrola Engineering & Construction.

The wind farm will comprise 51 of Gamesa G87 wind turbines of 2 MW each. It will start operation in early 2012. Its electricity will cover 6% of the country's power demand. Local utility Empresa Nacional de Energia Electrica will buy CdH's power output for a 20-year period.
