Standard Solar, a Brookfield portfolio company, said on Wednesday it has acquired a 25-MWp photovoltaic (PV) project in California from utility-scale developer Balanced Rock Power.

The purchase, the value of which was not disclosed, is aligned with Standard Solar’s strategy to buy projects of between 20 MW and 75 MW developed by utility-scale developers. “Our expertise and appetite for these types of acquisitions enable us to strategically expand our clean energy portfolio and provide dependable, sustainable power to the grid,” said Mike Streams, chief development officer of Standard Solar.

The Windhub Solar B project will create a PV park in Kern County that will interconnect with an existing substation and supply clean energy to utility Southern California Edison. The plant will be designed to address the power delivery challenges in the Mojave area, generating around 56,670 MWh of green power annually. The complex will cover around 160 acres of land.

Standard Solar expects to launch construction works on the project in the first half of 2025.

Earlier this year, Standard Solar bought a community PV portfolio in Illinois, consisting of 14 projects with a combined capacity of 84 MW, and a 18.5-MW solar project bundle in Vermont.
