The Bucharest Airports National Company, CNAB, said on Friday it has obtained a licence for the extraction of geothermal water in a location near Henri Coanda Bucharest International Airport.

CNAB aims to replace the current thermal plant 1 of the Henri Coanda airport with a geothermal power plant that, at a first stage, will ensure the heating of the airport's technical area, it said in a press release.

The geothermal water exploration programme will run for three years and is estimated to cost 3.76 million lei ($886,200/776,400 euro).

CNAB operates Bucharest's main airport, Henri Coanda, and a smaller one, Aurel Vlaicu.

CNAB was established in 2010 through the merger of companies that managed Henri Coanda and Baneasa airports.
