AGP-Europe signs VPPA with Rezolv for 229-MW solar project in Bulgaria
Sep 05, 2024 12:07 CESTBulgaria has the potential to deploy 200 MW of solar capacity on building roofs across the country in the next few years, the managing director of the Sustainable Energy Development Agency (SEDA) said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a conference organised by the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK) in Sofia, Ivaylo Alexiev said that the technical potential for rooftop solar installations in the Balkan country is estimated at about 2 million square metres.
The deployment of such systems should be concentrated in urban areas and although 200 MW is not a big figure, on a local level it could have a significant effect on households, Alexiev added.
Last month, Bulgaria implemented changes to its renewable energy legislation, incorporating terms like "prosumer" and "civic energy communities" in order to support the expansion of green energy and encourage private households to adopt it.
During his presentation, Alexiev pointed out that there is a need to harmonise numerous existing regulations from various sectors in order to ensure the effective implementation of the amendments.
