Bulgaria's environment ministry said that the Plovdiv Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water has suspended the operations of a biomass power plant in the village of Trud due to a possible threat to the public health.

The operations of the plant will remain suspended until its operator proves that measures have been taken to halt the emission of gasses and odors, and until the minister confirms there is no threat to the public health, the health ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

The plant's operations were suspended following complaints of citizens living nearby and a check from the Plovdiv Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water.
