Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTBurkina Faso’s national power utility Sonabel has opened bids in a tender for the construction of 9 MW of solar parks at three locations in the West African country.
Sonabel, officially Societe Nationale d’electricite du Burkina Faso, has issued a Notice of Invitation to Tender (AOO) and will await proposals by October 5. The competition is being held with the assistance of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
More specifically, the initiative envisages the installation of four photovoltaic (PV) plants. Two of the facilities, with a combined capacity of 6 MW, will be located in the town of Dori, while a 2-MW and a 1-MW array will be built in the towns of Diapaga and Gaoua, respectively.
Under its 2025 broader solar programme, Yeleen, Burkina Faso plans to build solar parks that will be connected to the national grid, improve its electricity distribution network and install mini-grids and individual PV systems in rural areas. At end-2019, the AfDB agreed to provide the country with a EUR-48.8-million (USD 58.1m) loan for a 208-MWp solar project.
