CABEI obtains USD 65m loan for wind farm, power grid

Feb 14, 2012 - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) has obtained a USD 65 million (EUR 49.2m) loan from German development bank KfW for the Cerro de Hula wind farm in Honduras and the Central American power grid network Siepac, CABEI said yesterday.
Cerro de Hula, owned by Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy, is a 102 MW wind farm built last year near the city of Tegucigalpa with financing from the US Export-Import Bank and CABEI.
Since 2003, CABEI and KfW have signed loans for over USD 280 million, used to support mainly renewable energy and energy efficiency projects and small and medium-sized enterprises. The banks will study new cooperation areas for Central America, CABEI's executive president, Nick Rischbieth, said in a press release.
