PGE, Ørsted lease Gdansk terminal for 1.5-GW Baltica 2 wind project
Sep 16, 2024 16:04 CESTDanish offshore wind installation company Cadeler A/S (OSL:CADLR) on Sunday unveiled vessel reservation agreements for the Baltyk II and Baltyk III offshore wind farms in Poland, which are being jointly developed by Polish power utility Polenergia SA (WSE:PEP) and Norway's Equinor ASA (OSE:EQNR).
To be built in the Baltic Sea, about 27 km (16.8 miles) and 40 km from the port of Leba respectively, the two wind projects will comprise 100 offshore wind turbines with an overall capacity of 1,440 MW. Turbine installation is slated to commence in 2027. Cadeler said it will use both an O-Class and a P-Class vessel for the project. The contracts that are to be negotiated based on the vessel reservation agreements are expected to be worth a total of between EUR 110 million (USD 119m) and EUR 130 million.
Cadeler CEO Mikkel Gleerup said that the Polish market offers great business potential for the company. “This also marks our first contract with Equinor and Polenergia, setting the stage for new successful future partnerships,” Gleerup added.
Polenergia and Equinor in February signed a final agreement with Siemens Gamesa for the supply of the turbines for Baltyk II and Baltyk III.
