June 2 ( Renewables Now) - Renewable power generation in California, excluding large hydro, jumped to 216,729 MWh on June 1 from 179,438 MWh in the previous day, according to data by the California Independent System Operator Corp (ISO).

California is one of the leaders in terms of renewable energy capacity and generation in the USA. These power generation statistics are for the same day on which US President Donald Trump announced that the US will withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. California governor Jerry Brown said on Twitter that the state "will resist this misguided and insane course of action". He was cited by the Independent as saying that California would pursue its own agreement on climate change with China.

On June 1 the wind power output in the state stood at 75,302 MWh, inching up by a 2.01% and peaking at 4,399 MW at 0100 Pacific Daylight Time (PDT). Solar photovoltaic (PV) generation, meanwhile, surged to 91,636 MWh from 59,471 MWh on May 31. At 1300 PDT a daily peak of 9,034 MW was reached.

The solar thermal power output was up by 904% to 4,487 MWh.

California also produced a total of 22,919 MWh of geothermal power.

California's Renewable Power Generation Structure
RES TYPE SHARE IN TOTAL RES GENERATION
Solar 42.28%
Wind 34.74%
Geothermal 10.57%
Small hydro 5.89%
Biomass 2.67%
Solar thermal 2.07%
Biogas 1.85%

The California State Senate on Wednesday passed a bill that calls for the state to use 100% renewable electricity by 2045.
