The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced today that the first 60 MW of the 100-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) partnership with Cambodia's state-owned utility Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) were connected to the grid.

Known as the National Solar Park, the project was divided into two phases -- 60 MW and 40 MW -- with international auctions organised to bid out the schemes to the private sector.

In order to execute the first phase of the PV plant, a tender was held in 2019 in which Prime Road Alternative Co Ltd emerged as the winner with a bid of USD 0.03877 (EUR 0.038) per kWh, which was the lowest solar power purchase tariff in Southeast Asia at the time.

China’s Trina Solar Co Ltd (SHA:688599) bid USD 0.026 per kWh in the 2020 auction and won the competition for the remaining 40 MW.

ADB recently announced it will oversee a programme for the deployment of 2 GW of solar power capacity in the Southeast Asian country. The bank signed a transaction advisory services mandate with EDC regarding opportunities for combined solar and battery storage development.
