Simply Blue names Goldboro as location for Canadian SAF hub
Sep 16, 2024 10:58 CESTThe government of Canada is investing CAD 2.89 million (USD 2.3m/EUR 1.96m) in the biojet technology of the University of Alberta, Natural Resources Canada said on Wednesday.
The funding will support the university's Lipid-to-Hydrocarbon (LTH) technology, which could reduce the aviation industry's greenhouse gas emissions by 90%, says the announcement. More specifically, the project, Alberta Biojet Initiative, seeks to develop pathways to generate renewable jet fuel from a range of feedstocks, including waste materials from the restaurant and livestock industries.
The University of Alberta is partnering on the CAD-7.4-million project with Alberta Innovates, FORGE Hydrocarbons Inc, Western Economic Diversification Canada, Future Energy Systems, CanmetENERGY Devon and Edmonton International Airport.
The government funding comes from Natural Resources Canada's Energy Innovation Programme (EIP).
