Canadian Premium Sand Inc (CVE:CPS), a Calgary-based solar glass supplier, last week unveiled plans to build a production plant for patterned solar glass in the province of Manitoba.

The company said in a press release it has identified a site in the City of Selkirk as the preferred location for its project. Its plan is to make high-specification patterned solar glass in a rolled manufacturing process that will support around 300 direct jobs. Upon completion, the project will create North America's first solar glass factory.

Specific details about the capacity of the proposed manufacturing facility and the size of the required investment were not available.

According to CPS, the City of Selkirk offers access to its high-grade silica sand quarry operation in nearby Seymourville and abundant supplies of natural gas and renewable hydropower resources. Access to end markets and labour opportunities are also in place.

CPS noted that the selected industrial zone is enough to accommodate its initial production capacity plus future facilities. The location was picked following a thorough evaluation of options in both Canada and the US.
