Alberta, Canada-based power producer Capital Power Corp (TSX:CPX) has placed its first order with US thin-film solar manufacturer First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR), calling for the supply of 1 GW DC of modules between 2026 and 2028, the companies said on Wednesday.

Capital Power will use First Solar’s 6 Plus modules to support its solar development pipeline. The company has three solar facilities in operation and an active US solar pipeline totaling almost 2.4 GW DC.

“First Solar’s longstanding investment in domestic supply chains ensures the use of high-quality American solar technology, including products made with significant amounts of domestically sourced content, to power our projects,” said Capital Power’s Chris Kopecky.

First Solar is expanding its US annual nameplate manufacturing capacity from over 6.5 GW DC currently to 10.9 GW DC by 2026.

First Solar’s chief commercial officer Georges Antoun said the partnership with First Solar can help de-risk Capital Power’s project pipeline by delivering long-term pricing and supply certainty.
