Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) has struck several multi-year agreements with power supplier Engie Resources LLC seeking to purchase electricity from renewables to cover the needs of its campus and increase its sustainability footprint.

Engie Resources, part of French energy group Engie SA (EPA:ENGI), said Monday it had tailored the unique agreements for power procurement with consultancy Amerex Energy Services. The arrangement is structured to offer a 100% renewable, fixed-price load following solution through 2024.

The electricity will be sourced from the 306-MW Radford’s Run wind farm operating in Macon Country, Illinois.

Separately, CMU has purchased Green-e Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to match its power usage. Designed as market-based instruments, RECs are independently verified to represent the environmental benefits of 1 MWh of renewable power. The University’s agreement covers RECs that are equal to benefits of having removed more than 21,000 cars from highways for over two years, Engie Resources noted.
