Australian wave energy developer Carnegie Wave Energy Ltd (ASX:CWE) said today it has received AUD 800,000 (USD 583,000/EUR 532,000) in financing for a wave and microgrid design project in Mauritius.

The Aussie government is awarding the funds in partnership with the Mauritian government so that Carnegie carries out the study and design of certain projects focused on high penetration renewable energy microgrids incorporating wave power technology.

The project activities include delivering a renewable energy roadmap for Mauritius, assessing the local wave energy resource and identifying a preferred site for a commercial project using Carnegie’s CETO technology as well as designing a microgrid powered desalination plant on the Mauritian island of Rodrigues.

The total cost of the project is estimated at AUD 990,000. The sum not covered by the fresh financing will be invested by Carnegie itself.
