Colombian power company Celsia has grid-connected eight solar farms with a combined capacity of close to 120 MW so far in 2023, delivering enough electricity to match consumption needs of 96,000 households in Colombia.

The company says that it now has 300 MWp of solar power capacity installed across 17 plants in the country, highlighting their importance during the El Nino season when hydro inflows are scarce.

Celsia’s latest solar farms to be connected to the national grid are Victoria 1 and Victoria 2, each of 19.9 MW of installed capacity. The facilities are equipped with 97,000 solar panels installed on a 64-hectare (158.1 acres) field once used as a sugar cane plantation.

The Victoria plants are two of four 19.9-MW solar farms that Celsia installed in 2023. They were joined by a another four solar farms of 9.9 MW each.
