Celsia finalises 1,288-MWh rooftop PV installation in Honduras Celsia rooftop PV array at Mega Mall Honduras

Colombian energy company Celsia SA has completed installing a 1,288-MWh solar photovoltaic (PV) array on the rooftop of the Mega Mall shopping centre in San Pedro Sula town, Honduras.

Consisting of 2,234 solar modules, the PV system was completed in five months. It spreads across a surface of 8,700 square metres (93,646 sq ft). This array, Celsia’s first rooftop PV system for a shopping mall, can meet 16% of the power needs of Mega Mall's commercial centre.

According to Celsia's Commercial Leader in Honduras, Pedro Banegas, the PV system will produce enough power to meet the average consumption of 1,000 Honduran households.

In addition to the rooftop array, Celsia also installed a new 7.2-kW electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the mall's parking lot.

Earlier this week, the Colombian company switched on a 10.6-MW PV plant at a site of cement manufacturer Cementos Argos in Comayagua. In February, it installed a 4-MW rooftop PV system at the Zip Bufalo industrial park, its overall first in the Central American country.
