Latin American power producer and distributor Celsia SA announced on Tuesday that it has put into operation a 10.55-MWp solar farm in Panama through its local arm Celsia Centroamerica SA.

The Prudencia solar plant, which required an investment of over USD 8 million (EUR 7.6m), is located in the province of Chiriqui, specifically on land adjacent to Celsia’s Prudencia hydropower plant.

For this project, Celsia installed over 25,000 solar panels at a site spanning some 10 hectares (24.7 acres).

The solar farm's entire production output will be sold to The Ocean Club, a waterfront high-rise in Panama City. This would be enough to meet 64% of the building's consumption, Celsia said.

Celsia Centroamerica currently has 187.5 MW of installed renewable energy capacity in the region, the parent company added.
