Colombian electric utility Celsia has inaugurated a 19.9-MW solar farm in Puerto Tejada, southwestern Colombia, presenting a project it completed for a hygiene and personal care products manufacturer in the region.

This is the first solar farm for Grupo Familia, part of Swedish personal care giant Essity AB (STO:ESSITY-B), which makes baby and adult hygiene products in a factory in Puerto Tejada. This factory will replace 43.8% of its electricity consumption with solar power, contributing to Grupo Familia Essity’s goal of reducing 35% of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, Celsia said in a press release on Wednesday.

Celsia developed the project through its solar investment platform created in partnership with Cubico Sustainable Investments. The solar farm is equipped with 49,350 photovoltaic modules occupying an area of 39.5 hectares (97.6 acres).

The new plant will generate electricity for the factory first. Any excess electricity will be injected into Colombia’s national power grid, Celsia added.
