Geneva-based chipmaker STMicroelectronics (BIT:STMMI) has sealed a deal with a unit of UK energy company Centrica Plc (LON:CNA) to procure 61 GWh of electricity annually from a new solar farm to be built in Italy.

The contracted volume will power STMicro’s operations in Italy, including two manufacturing sites in Agrate and Catania, as well as various research and development (R&D), design, and sales and marketing sites, according to a statement released today.

The clean electricity will be supplied under a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) which is set to come into effect from January 2025.

The deal with Centrica Energy Trading A/S marks STMicro’s second power offtake agreement in the country. In November, the chipmaker secured about 250 GWh of wind power per year under a 15-year PPA with Italian energy company ERG SpA.
