CEZ plans to bid for Romanian power distributor - Bloomberg

Czech power group CEZ may bid for one of Romania's state-controlled power distributors as it plans to develop small hydroelectric plants and wind farms in the country, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.

CEZ is planning to reach 1,100 megawatts of wind power in Romania by 2016, Bloomberg (www.blooomberg.com) quoted Ondrej Safar, the executive in charge of generation, as telling a press conference in Bucharest.

The company plans to buy one of the three power distributors controlled by state-owned company Electrica if the Romanian government goes ahead with a sale, CEZ’s country manager for Romania, Jan Veskrna, was quoted as saying.

CEZ lobbied the Romanian government to start the sale process for the three power distributors.

Bidding for Electrica Muntenia Nord makes most sense, Veskrna added.

In Romania CEZ operates two wind parks, Fantanele and Cogealac, and four small hydropower plants near Resita, in the country's west. The company plans to complete this year the Fantanele and Cogealac wind farms, loacted in southeastern Romania, which will have a combined installed capacity of 600 megawatts.
