Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) authorized a preparation grant of USD 780,000 (EUR 716.4) for the first phase of Starsol's 40-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Chad.
Near N’Djamena, the project is the first Independent Power Producer (IPP) scheme to be connected to Chad's national grid. It is estimated to produce 64 GWh of electricity per year, or enough for 16,871 households.
SEFA's grant will cover the costs for technical assistance, plant design, grid study and advisor expenses.
Aligned with the African Development Bank Climate Change Action Plan 2011-2015 and Energy Policy, as well as the Bank’s Strategy 2013-2022, the project is a government priority, especially for a country where electricity reaches less than 2% of the population.
The Starsol Chad project is being developed by a consortium between solar projects company NewSolar Invest, engineering firm CIEC Monaco and the financing arranger Arborescence Capital.
