Chile's environmental authorities have approved projects for two photovoltaic (PV) parks of 9 MW each in the Marchigue municipality of O'Higgins region.

The projects involve initial investments of USD 18 million (EUR 16.1m) each and will be connected with the local network of power distributor Emelectric, part of the central Chilean grid SIC. Each project is designed for 46 years.

The environmental impact declarations were filed last year by GR Araucania SpA and GR Canelo SpA, respectively, run by Spanish renewable energy firm Grenergy Renovables, which has been present in Chile since 2013.

Regional administrator Juan Ramon Godoy welcomed the approval on Monday as a step towards a more secure and sustainable energy mix with reasonable prices.
