Chile ends Aug with 3.5 GW of power capacity under contruction

Sep 17, 2014 - Chile had 42 power projects under construction at end-August with a total capacity of 3,518 MW, include 21 solar and four wind schemes.

The rest of the capacity is spread among seven hydropower plants (HPPs), six min-HPPs and four thermal power plants.

A total 14 power projects were started in the country during the March-August 2014 period with a combined capacity of 1,569 MW. Among others, Chile started two hydroelectric power projects, namely the 150-MW Los Condores and the 531-MW Alto Maipo HPPs.

Chile replaced Italy and climbed to the 12th spot in Ernst & Young’s latest editions of the “all renewables” country attractiveness index, as it continues to attract large-scale investment in the wind and solar markets.
