Chile seeks EUR 15m funding for clean energy

Nov 18, 2013 - Chile's energy ministry, through its Renewable Energy Centre (CER), has been selected to apply for foreign funding of EUR 15 million (USD 20.3m) for small-scale renewable energy projects in the local commercial-industrial sector, the ministry said.

CER wants to save 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) through the installation of 60 MW for self-supply in the industry, using biogas, biomass and photovoltaic technology.

CER's programme is one of four selected projects that will have access to the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) facility of Germany's environment ministry and UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change.

The funds will be channelled to subsidies, soft loans and capacity improvement, and are expected to support a total investment of USD 100 million in the next five years, CER said.
