Sep 13, 2024 15:00 CESTChile's renewable power generation rose 19.9% year-on-year to 702 GWh last month, representing nearly 11.9% of total output, a report of the government's sustainable energy centre Cifes showed on Wednesday.
Wind power remained the leading renewable source with 217 GWh, followed by mini hydro plants with 24.01% of the renewables mix, solar power with 22.69%, biomass with 19.45% and biogas with 2.89%. Compared to the previous month, renewables output went down by 2.4%.
The installed renewable energy capacity reached 2,278 MW at the end of November, equal to 11.44% of the national systems, with an additional 232 MW in test operation.
According to the National Energy Committee, CNE, the country expects new 2,706 MW by October 2017 from 58 renewable energy projects that are currently under construction.
Last month the environmental authorities approved a sole renewable energy project, a 9-MW biomass plant.
